Governor Ademola Adeleke secures a second term mandate

Prof Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, the returning officer of The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2026 Osun State governorship election has declared the incumbent governor of Osun State and Accord Party candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, winner of the state’s governorship election on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

Senator Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won 19 local government areas out of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Bola Oyebamiji won 11 LGAs. The African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.

Senator Adeleke said: “I want to seize this opportunity to thank Mr. President. He has called me and he has congratulated me. Thank you, Mr. President, for making sure democracy lives on because you fought for it,”

Governor Adeleke appreciated all those who contributed to his re-election for ensuring democracy “lives on”.

A total of 15 political parties participated in the poll.
